Overview

The Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat has a beautiful lakefront that faces west towards St. Regis Mountain. This yields stunning sunsets throughout the year, which they wanted to not only share with the world and potential customers on their website but keep a recorded log of past sunsets.

Goals

  • Develop a weatherproof, wireless video feed of the remote lakefront
  • Process and archive sunsets and recorded footage at a separate location that has weather but not temperature protection
  • Build a web-friendly, embeddable live video stream

How Was It Made?

  • Fabricated a weatherproof enclosure for 120 VAC power, internet protocol camera, and high-powered transmission antenna
  • Constructed a heated housing for a Digital Video Recorder, receiving antenna, and network infrastructure to sustain equipment in nominal operating ranges as external temperatures drop to -30°F
  • Re-streamed RTSP video from the DVR to a live RTMP stream using a Raspberry Pi and real-time FFmpeg compression
